The IE Message

Today, after a long time, I’m retiring a feature that my website has had. I’m not sure when I first did this, but it predates this domain and goes back to the older version of my site which was hosted on space provided by my ISP (Remember when ISPs provided web hosting for home pages as part of the package?). IE6 was definitely still very common when I did it.

I’m retiring it due to reasons, one of which being that it’s probably something nobody has seen in 10 years because IE is now long dead. And the world is better for it.

But before retiring it, I took a screenshot.

Here is what users used to see when they tried to view my website using Internet Explorer (Or, as I liked to call it, “Internet Exploiter”):

The message you used to see on my website if you visited with IE

(There also used to be a flash-based audio player, so that even IE users could listen to my music, because I’m not completely heartless. But that hasn’t worked in the decade or so since flash stopped being a thing. Something else I’m not at all sad about, and perhaps the only truly good thing Steve Jobs ever did).
